10 jaar ILO Conventie 189! - Ten years ILO Convention 189!
Op 16 juni a.s. is het tien jaar geleden dat C189 is aangenomen door de ILO. Daarin staat beschreven dat huishoudelijk personeel dezelfde rechten hoort te hebben als elke andere werknemer. Helaas is dat in veel landen nog niet het geval, ook niet in Nederland. Vandaar dit webinar om hier opnieuw aandacht voor te vragen.

Na jaren van internationaal actievoeren door huishoudelijk werkers werd tien jaar geleden op 16 juni 2011 ILO Conventie 189 aangenomen, de zogenaamde 'Domestic Workers Convention'. Hiermee werd erkend dat huishoudelijk werkers dezelfde rechten horen te hebben als alle andere werkenden. Helaas heeft het merendeel van deze huishoudelijk werkers nog steeds geen toegang tot sociale zekerheid en verzekeringen voor arbeidsongeschiktheid, en ook geen baanzekerheid. Dit werd maar weer pijnlijk duidelijk het afgelopen jaar tijdens de COVID-19 pandemie, toen duizenden huishoudelijk werkers van de ene op de andere dag hun werk verloren en zonder inkomen achterbleven.Inmiddels is de conventie 189 door 31 landen wereldwijd geratificeerd, helaas hoort Nederland daar nog niet bij.
Op 16 juni 2021, met het tienjarig jubileum van de 'Domestic Workers Convention' (van 19:00 - 21:00 uur), willen we stilstaan bij de positie van huishoudelijk werkers in Nederland en de rest van de wereld. We gaan we in gesprek over hoe we (vakbonds)solidariteit kunnen organiseren om de positie van huishoudelijk werkers te verbeteren. Centraal hierbij staan de ervaringen van de huishoudelijk werkers zelf.
Gastsprekers
We gaan tijdens het webinar in gesprek met huishoudelijk werkers zelf, het migrant domestic workers network van de FNV. Ook spreken we over ‘best practices’ met vakbondsvertegenwoordigers uit landen waar de Conventie wel is geratificeerd, o.a. uit Belgie, Zwitserland en Peru. Als laatste gaan we in gesprek met vertegenwoordigers uit de Tweede Kamer over wat er nodig is om de conventie ook in Nederland geratificeerd te krijgen. Hierbij spreken we ook over de rechten van huishoudelijk werkers met een migratieachtergrond.

After years of international campaigning by domestic workers, 10 years ago on June 16, 2011 the ILO Convention 189 was adopted, the so-called “Domestic Workers Convention”. This recognized domestic workers should have the same rights as all other workers. Unfortunately, most of these domestic workers still do not have access to social security and disability insurance, nor job security. This became painfully evident again last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, when thousands of domestic workers lost their jobs overnight and were left behind with no income. The convention has now been ratified by 31 countries worldwide, unfortunately the Netherlands is not yet one of them.
On June 16, 2021, with the 10th anniversary of the “Domestic Workers Convention” (7:00 - 9:00 PM NL), we want to reflect on the position of domestic workers in the Netherlands and the rest of the world and we will discuss how we can organize (trade union) solidarity to improve the position of domestic workers. Central to this are the experiences of the domestic workers themselves.
Guest speakers
During the webinar we will talk to domestic workers themselves, the migrant domestic workers network of the FNV. We also discuss best practices with trade union representatives from countries where the Convention has been ratified, including from Belgium, Switzerland and Peru. Finally, we will discuss with representatives from the House of Representatives what is needed to get the convention ratified in the Netherlands. We also refer to the rights of domestic workers with a migrant background.
