On 4 June 2024, in cooperation with WO=MEN, the Dutch Gender Platform, and CNV Internationaal, Mondiaal FNV organised a side event during the International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva, focused on the ratification process of the ILO Convention No. 190 (C190).

The year 2024 marked the fifth anniversary of the Convention, the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based incidents of harassment. This treaty is a historic opportunity to shape a future in which workers, in particular women, are respected and safe in the workplace.
Five years later, however, the ILO C190 has been ratified in only 39 countries. With this side event, we sought to highlight once again the importance of having the treaty ratified on a global level.
At the side event, speakers from Benin, Indonesia, and India shared their experiences and practices relating to the prevention and elimination of violence in the workplace. The specific role of trade unions was also emphasised. In addition, success stories were shared by speakers from Colombia and South Africa - two countries that had already ratified the treaty or would do so in the near future.
